Backyard Biennial
London Parks and Gardens celebrates Whitechapel Gallery 125th Anniversary by working with communities around Mile End Park in East London.
As part of the Gallery’s 125th anniversary celebrations, we’ll be taking part in their first ever Backyard Biennial, a new collaborative, cross-venue arts
festival, celebrating the East End’s unique historic, creative and cultural
identity.

More details will be shared here, but we can confirm we’ll be working with three local artists to explore the hidden value Mile End Park embodies. It’s an exciting new venture for us, which we are certain will both challenge and help us all as we strive to celebrate the relevance of public greenspace, old and new.

This year we opened 120 gardens providing access to some of London’s most precious hidden green spaces in London. This is our biggest annual fund raising event and ticket sales help fund our work that protects and celebrates London’s heritage parks and gardens.
Huge thanks to all who took part in this joyous event. Our volunteers, gardeners, residents, staff and partners have successfully delivered the 27th edition of this much loved celebratory weekend. Have a great summer and hope to see you all next year!
