Island Gardens

A walk along Westferry Road brings us to Island Gardens. This is the last and the oldest park of this trip.

The land was bought by the Commissioners of the Royal Hospital in 1850 to protect their view, and was laid out as a park by Sexby in 1895, for the Metropolitan Board of Works.

It has recently gained some new planting at the eastern end and a modern bandstand.

The best thing about Island Gardens, however is the view of Greenwich, a nice twist to the original intentions.
