1. TRUST ORGANISATION

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The London Parks & Gardens Trust (LPGT) was launched as an independent charitable trust in May 1994.  Its objectives, as laid out in its Memorandum and Articles of Association (see Appendix), are to:-

1.2 MANAGEMENT AND STRUCTURE

The organisation of LPGT is based on a management structure (Council of Management and Executive Committee) with subgroups to carry out the work of the Trust with administrative support.  This structure originates in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Council of Management

The Council of Management manages the affairs of the Trust and elects the chair who has devolved powers.  The Council’s remit is to:-

The Council consists of members elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) plus others who are elected from time to time by the Council.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee, comprised of the chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, subgroup chairs and others appointed from time to time, has the responsibility to:-

On a day-to-day basis the chair or other appointed person carries out these responsibilities on behalf of the committee.

THE AIMS OF THE LONDON PARKS & GARDENS TRUST ARE TO:-

 
  • Create a centre of expertise on London’s green open spaces
  • Promote education about and enjoyment of London’s green open spaces through conferences, study days, lectures, walks, visits and other activities, including Open Garden Squares Weekend
  • Develop and implement a promotional strategy to consolidate and broaden the Trust’s membership
  • Develop and implement a fund-raising strategy to service Trust activities
  • Recruit, train and organise volunteers for Trust activities
  • Broaden, record and publish research relating to London’s historic green open spaces
  • Develop, maintain and promote an Inventory of London’s historic parks and gardens
  • Develop a proactive role in planning and conservation issues in London
  • Promote liaison with other London heritage organisations, London-wide bodies and other relevant organisations
  • Take an active role in the work of the Association of Gardens Trust
